What is FIRST LEGO League?
Washington Middle School’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a hands-on robotics and innovation program designed to inspire students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) while developing essential life and career skills. FLL engages students through two primary components: the Robot Game and the Innovation Project, all guided by the foundational FLL Core Values.
In the Robot Game, teams design, build, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO SPIKE Prime technology to complete a series of themed challenges on a competition field. In the Innovation Project, students research a real-world problem currently being tackled by scientists and engineers, develop a creative solution, and present their ideas to peers and professionals.
Throughout the season, students practice and uphold the FLL Core Values—such as teamwork, inclusion, and discovery—which set the program apart from others. These values emphasize that learning together, supporting one another, and engaging in friendly competition are key to both personal growth and team success.
